Mercedes Dassy belongs to a new breed of performers and creators who have recently blasted the Belgian performing arts scene. Multitalented, ravaging and tireless, she is active in dance, performance, film, music, theater, and video. After training at the Salzburg Experimental Academy of Dance (S.E.A.D.), she danced as a performer for Lisbeth Gruwez and Leslie Mannès, among others. She created her first choreographic solo in 2018, and continued with other radical choreographic projects, exploring the relationship between the intimate and the political.
In 2024 she started the research for her new solo Spongebabe in L.A. (4 love & anxiety), recently presented at the Biennale de la Danse, at Lyon. In this project she researches voice and writing. Heartbreakingheartbrokenartbreak was formed in this research and has been commissioned by MIR. Since 2023 she is an associate artist of Charleroi danse. She has collaborated with the Lyon Ballet, and with artists from Brussels underground scene, as well as with teenage students at a school in Charleroi district.
The Théâtre des Doms has honored her with the Jo Dekmine Prize and she saw awarded the jury prize at the Podium dance competition. She appears in films and is currently preparing for the release of her first EP.
