ARISANDMARTHA

“Nothing is sacred, everything can be said.” – Raoul Vaneigem

Arisandmartha’s work challenges contemporary choreographic practices and the notion of expanded choreography, weaving together movement, text, and conceptual approaches that explore identity, togetherness, the consumption of images, the body as archive, and ritual practices. Through a pronounced physical language, surreal imagery, fragmentation of structure and rhythm, re-enactments, and the use of ready-made materials, they create works that navigate the space between staged and site-specific choreographic production.

Outliers marks the first step of a broader exploration into the dynamics of power that arise within the structure of domination and submission, and the fluid boundaries between what is permitted and what is forbidden. The piece conjures stage-monsters to set in motion encounters where performers and audience alike are invited to reconsider their perception of the Other, their relationship to otherness, and to take a position between what is acceptable and unacceptable, desired and undesired.

arisandmartha is the vehicle of the artistic collaboration of dancers, performers and choreographers Aris Papadopoulos and Martha Pasakopoulou. Since 2016 they have presented amongst other works SKINFLICK (2024), they returned regularly, each time for more (2023), and ALL THAT MATTER (2021–22), and were distinguished as Aerowaves Artists for touching.just (2018). Their work has been supported by the Greek Ministry of Culture, FLUX Laboratory, Onassis AiR and MIRfestival, with latest productions touring in festivals and on stages across Europe.
